Ben Anderson, Director
Having originally joined AFA in 2007, after leaving for a short time Ben re-joined AFA and became a Company Director of AFA in 2015.
An experienced Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager Ben has been involved in a wide range of projects at AFA with particular emphasis on Hotels & Leisure, commercial, and Mixed-use schemes. His strengths are in working closely with the client, understanding the user requirements and transferring ideas and concepts into a commercial solutions. Over his 14 years at AFA Ben has established himself as a key link with the clients on all projects he is involved in.
Ben loves pretty much any sport and still believes ‘he could have made it as a professional footballer’ however there is absolutely no proof to back up this wild claim.

Antony Byard, Director
Antony joined AFA in 1990 and is the longest serving member of AFA and became a Company Director in 2000.
An experienced Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager and CDM Principal Designer Antony has delivered projects of all sizes across a wide range of sectors including Residential, Hotels & Leisure and many bespoke projects which developed a flexible and innovative approach to problem solving which has been enhanced through sharing knowledge from lessons learned in working in various sectors and with very different client bases. Antony also enjoys passing on his experience to younger members of the profession in recognition of the quality training that he enjoyed as a young surveyor.

Stephen Fealty, Senior Project Manager
A seasoned Project Management professional with over 30 years' experience within the construction industry in the UK, Middle East and South East Asia, with extensive past experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator. Stephens experience in Project Management has been at the highest level and extends to Commercial Management and Quality Assurance. As a team leader Stephen revels in assembling strong core project teams and setting the direction and implementation of key procedures.
When not in the office or on site you can usually find Stephen with a cold pint of Heineken in his hand.

Derek Ferrier, Senior Consultant
Derek is a highly motivated individual and an experienced Project Manager and Cost Consultant. Derek was previously the Managing Partner of Hardies in charge of a major surveying practice where he developed the practice from a business with 6 offices and 30 members of staff to a practice with 14 offices and over 100 members of staff. He was instrumental in merging Hardies with J&E Shepherd in November 2016 which further developed the business to 33 offices and over 350 members of staff throughout Scotland. As a Senior Consultant to AFA Derek provides an advisory role to the Directors, when required, and with over 30 years’ experience in the management of major leisure, education, office, commercial and public building projects Derek assists with the delivery of projects in Scotland.
Outside of works you will find Derek in the stands of Tynecastle supporting his much loved team, Heart of Midlothian.

Peter Slim, Senior Quantity Surveyor
Peter has over 40 years in the construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor, including 10 years in the Middle East. Peter has an held various senior QS roles and has provided traditional QS services across building and infrastructure sectors of the industry including hospitality, residential, commercial, roads, rail, airports and environmental schemes. On his time off enjoys a glass of Red and walking the dog, usually down the pub.

Alex Frame, Quantity Surveyor
Alex joined AFA in May 2016 whilst studying Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management part-time at the University of West of England. Having gained experience working on a variety of projects throughout multiple sectors, namely working on the largest hotel in Scotland, Alex is now progressing towards his APC to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
Away from work you’ll find Alex playing rugby or walking his dogs Chester and Barney.

Cristian Goodwin, Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Cristian started at AFA in early 2019 as an assistant quantity surveyor. Currently he is undertaking a Chartered Quantity Surveying apprenticeship with AFA, gaining the vital workplace experience whilst studying for his degree with ambitions of becoming a fully qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
In his spare time Cristian volunteers as a coach at his local football club where he is an established coach and player.

Rachel Waller, Finance and Commercial Administrator
Rachel Joined AFA in April 2021 after previously working for Science (UK) Limited for 12 years and is tasked with supporting the strategic growth of the business by way of Financial and Commercial Administration. As well as this she looks after all office HR, social media, bid management and is PA to the Directors.
When not at work you’ll find Rachel on a yoga mat or paddle boarding up the camel estuary in Cornwall.
