Managing Director
Ben Anderson
Having originally joined in 2007, and after leaving for a short time, Ben re-joined AFA Ltd and became Company Director in 2015.
An experienced Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager, Ben has been involved in a wide range of projects at AFA Ltd with particular emphasis on hotels and leisure, commercial, and mixed-use schemes. His strengths include working closely with clients, understanding their user requirements and transferring ideas and concepts into commercial solutions. With over 15 years’ experience at AFA Ltd, Ben has established himself as a key link for the client on all projects he is involved in.
Ben loves pretty much any sport and still plays football whenever he can. He has also been known to swing golf clubs (not very well). Outside of work and sport, you will find Ben spending time with family or enjoying a pint with friends.

Director - AFA Special Projects
Antony Byard
Antony joined AFA in 1990 and is the longest-serving member of AFA and became a Company Director in 2000.
An experienced Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager and CDM Principal Designer Antony has delivered projects of all sizes across a wide range of sectors including Residential, Hotels & Leisure and many bespoke projects which developed a flexible and innovative approach to problem-solving which has been enhanced through sharing knowledge from lessons learned in working in various sectors and with very different client bases. Antony also enjoys passing on his experience to younger members of the profession in recognition of the quality training that he enjoyed as a young surveyor.

Non-Executive Director
Simon Large BSc (Hons) FRICS
Simon has extensive experience across a wide range of property sectors providing project management, quantity surveying and development advice for many years. Simon joined the AFA team to help the business grow and diversify over the last five years. He is passionate about nurturing the next generation of talented surveyors and is now embarking upon the role of non-executive director of the company.
Outside of work, Simon is a lifelong supporter of Bristol Rovers and a keen gardener.
Senior Consultant
Derek Ferrier
Derek is a highly motivated individual and an experienced Project Manager and Cost Consultant. Derek was previously the Managing Partner of Hardies in charge of a major surveying practice where he developed the practice from a business with 6 offices and 30 members of staff to a practice with 14 offices and over 100 members of staff. He was instrumental in merging Hardies with J&E Shepherd in November 2016 which further developed the business to 33 offices and over 350 members of staff throughout Scotland. As a Senior Consultant to AFA Derek provides an advisory role to the Directors when required, and with over 30 years of experience in the management of major leisure, education, office, commercial and public building projects Derek assists with the delivery of projects in Scotland.
Outside of works you will find Derek in the stands of Tynecastle supporting his much-loved team, Heart of Midlothian.

Senior Project Manager
Barry Hawkins
Barry joined AFA team in November 2021 as Senior Project Manager bringing with him over 40 years of construction delivery and operational knowledge, and over 15 years of experience working and developing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). Along with his construction knowledge, Barry spent 12 years working in hotel operations providing early brand development, product design, and cost advice within the property function.
With his experience in both traditional and modern methods of construction, Barry has the experience to blend established methods and materials with the new, to drive change in the way we deliver a project.
Barry’s proven track record has been established across many sectors, initially with a focus on hotels and leisure he has developed solutions for healthcare, education, student accommodation, and housing.

Peter Slim
Peter has over 40 years in the construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor, including 10 years in the Middle East. Peter has held various senior QS roles and has provided traditional QS services across building and infrastructure sectors of the industry including hospitality, residential, commercial, roads, rail, airports and environmental schemes. On his time off enjoys a glass of Red and walking the dog, usually down the pub.

Alex Frame
Alex joined AFA in May 2016 whilst studying Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management part-time at the University of West of England. Having gained experience working on a variety of projects throughout multiple sectors, namely working on the largest hotel in Scotland, Alex is now progressing towards his APC to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
Away from work you’ll find Alex playing rugby or walking his dogs Chester and Barney.

Senior Project Manager
Stephen Fealty
A seasoned Project Management professional with over 30 years' experience within the construction industry in the UK, Middle East and South East Asia, with extensive past experience working as a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator. Stephens experience in Project Management has been at the highest level and extends to Commercial Management and Quality Assurance. As a team leader Stephen revels in assembling strong core project teams and setting the direction and implementation of key procedures.
When not in the office or on site you can usually find Stephen with a cold pint of Heineken in his hand.

Dan Stradling
Dan joined AFA in November 2023 as Senior Quantity Surveyor, after having previously worked for various PQS consultancies both in the UK and Australia.
He has developed experience working on a wide range of projects across multiple sectors, during his 16 years in the industry.
Dan is advancing towards his APC to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and further expand his career.
Outside the day job, Dan enjoys the outdoors, is a keen traveller and keeps fit by chasing his dog across the field when it won’t come back!

Group Finance & Commercial Manager
Jade Brinsford
Jade joined AFA in November 2021 aafter previously working for the Bathurst Estate and is tasked with supporting the strategic growth of the business. As well as this, Jade looks after all office HR, social media, bid management and is PA to the Directors.
When not at work Jade likes keeping active by swimming, cycling and walking and as a reward she likes a nice pub lunch.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Hannah Masters
Hannah joined AFA in January 2023 as Assistant Quantity Surveyor, after having previously worked on various projects for a main contractor in the residential sector.
She is currently studying for a HNC; QS in Construction. Through the apprenticeship, she is gaining valuable knowledge and skills to assist in her role and career development.
Away from work and studying, Hannah is a keen traveller and likes to get out and explore in her campervan, going on nice long hikes followed by a cold beer at the end.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Cristian Goodwin
Cristian started at AFA in early 2019 as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. Currently he is undertaking a Chartered Quantity Surveying apprenticeship with AFA, gaining the vital workplace experience whilst studying for his degree with ambitions of becoming a fully qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
In his spare time Cristian volunteers as a coach at his local football club where he is an established coach and player.

Ollie Moulder
Ollie joined AFA in October 2023 as Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, having just finished his Design Surveying and Planning T Level qualification.
The next step for Ollie is to start his Quantity Surveying Degree. Through the apprenticeship at AFA, he will gain valuable knowledge and skills to assist him in his role and career development.
Away from work and studying, Ollie enjoys supporting and playing football in his spare time.
